Bubblr
Bubblr is a social media app designed specifically for children aged 8–12, offering a fun, interactive and educational space while prioritizing safety, privacy and emotional well being.
The Problem
Mainstream social media platforms are not designed with children in mind. Kids are exposed to adult content and online bullying which often neglect their developmental needs. Parents are left with limited, ineffective alternatives.
The Solution
I approached the design of Bubblr with a strong emphasis on safety, engagement and age-appropriateness. I began by establishing a clear understanding of how kids interact with digital platforms and identifying key concerns around child safety and user experience..
Research & User Understanding: I defined key personas focusing on creating a safe, enjoyable space for kids while addressing parental concerns around safety, screen time, and content.
Structure & Design: Low-fidelity wireframes mapped intuitive flows for content, interaction and supervision. I crafted a playful, accessible visual language optimized for kids and mobile responsiveness.
Content & Safety Features: I developed child-friendly microcopy and embedded robust safety features like parental controls, content moderation, and gentle screen-time cues to ensure trust, fun, and peace of mind.
Key takeaways
Designing Bubblr challenged me to balance creativity with responsibility. It taught me how to design engaging, age-appropriate experiences while embedding trust and safety at the core, proving that fun and protection can go hand in hand.
